What Makes This Colorado Trail Bike Trip Special

Varied and Scenic Trails

Riders will enjoy a mix of singletrack, dirt roads, and connecting trails that showcase the beauty of Colorado’s North Section. While not continuous singletrack, the route features rewarding climbs, flowing descents, and a variety of terrain that highlights alpine forests, ridgelines, and open vistas. This trip is fully supported, so riders can focus on the experience while our crew transports gear between camps.

Ride at Your Own Pace

Riders move at their own speed throughout the day. A sweep guide stays at the back of the group to provide navigation assistance, minor mechanical help, and first aid if needed.

Slackpacking for a Better Ride

Riders carry only the essentials for the day: lunch, snacks, 2–3 liters of water, rain gear, riding layers, and a personal bike repair kit. All camping equipment and personal bags are transported between camps by our support crew, allowing you to ride lighter, faster, and more comfortably.

The Riding Experience

Colorado Trail Segments 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6

This trip explores some of the most scenic and rewarding northern segments of the Colorado Trail. Riders start near Denver and wind through high-country singletrack, dense forests, and alpine vistas. Each day features a mix of climbs and flowing descents, with rides typically lasting 4–6 hours depending on pace, leaving plenty of time to relax and enjoy camp each evening.

Mountain Bike Singletrack Through Forests and Alpine Terrain

Experience varied terrain—from shaded forest trails to open high-country ridgelines. Some sections traverse areas recovering from historic burn scars, providing both technical riding and breathtaking views. This diversity ensures a rewarding experience for all intermediate to advanced riders.

Camp Life and Support

Comfortable Backcountry Camps

At the end of each day, riders arrive at fully supported backcountry camps where personal gear has already been delivered. Riders set up their own tents and settle into camp, enjoying a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Guest Tent and Camp Comfort

Our guest tent serves as a communal “living room” with camp chairs, a coffee and tea bar, and access to books and card games. Guests are welcome to bring beer or wine, and we provide a cooler specifically for BYOBs.

Fresh Meals Prepared by Your Guides

  • Breakfast – Hot continental-style breakfast each morning. Coffee and tea are always available. On the first day, riders enjoy a packed hot breakfast during shuttle to the trailhead.

  • Lunch – Build-your-own sandwiches with deli meats, cheeses, peanut butter & jelly, fresh fruit, vegetables, and trail snacks.

Weather During our Colorado Trail Mountain Bike Trip

During late June and August in Colorado’s Front Range, summer conditions are generally favorable for mountain biking. Average daytime highs range from the mid-70s to low 80s °F, with cooler nights in the 50s °F.

Although summer brings occasional afternoon thunderstorms, rides start early to allow most riding to be completed in the morning. Weather can vary with elevation, so riders should be prepared for cooler conditions at higher points and quick-changing afternoon storms.

  • Depart the parking lot by 9:30 AM sharp

Recommended Hotels (Night Before or After)

Because of the morning meeting time, we strongly recommend staying in the Denver area the night before the trip.

The Origin Hotel - Red Rocks is right across the street from the Park N Ride

Ending the Trip

We plan to finish the ride and return to the Park N Ride between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM on the final day, providing little flexibility for riders. If you're traveling from out of state, we'd advise not planning to travel back until the day after the trip ends.

Meeting Logistics – Flying In

Meeting Information – Flying In

For riders flying into the area for this trip- the nearest airport is Denver International Airport (DEN). The airport is located about 40 miles from the meeting location in Golden, CO, so after landing, riders will need to arrange transportation to the Wooly Mammoth Park N Ride. Options include rental cars, local taxi services, or shuttle companies. Ride-share apps like Uber or Lyft are incredibly reliable in the Denver area and may be your best bet if you are traveling with a bike.

For a smooth start to your trip, we recommend planning your arrival the night before your first day on the trail. This ensures you have plenty of time to reach the meeting location, pick up any rental bikes or gear, and be ready for an early departure with the group. Additional details and directions can be found under the Meeting Logistics tab.

If you are flying in and renting a bike-
Things could get a little tricky. Unfortunatly there isn't any bike rental locations near our meeting location. Your best bet may be to go straight from the airport to your bike rental, then order an Uber XL and communicate with the driver about your needing room for a bike. We'd highly recommend staying at The Origin Hotel - Red Rocks the night before the trip if this is the case. At the end of the trip we're happy to take you and your rental bike back to your rental location.

If you have any questions about flights, local transportation, or shuttle logistics, riders can contact:

Frequently Asked Questions

All of your camping and personal gear as well as food provisions are carried for you on this progressive five-day hike. This leaves you with a light load (day pack with water, lunch and rain gear) to hike with each day. Yes, we take care of the heavy loads!! The staff driven support trucks go to locations close to the Colorado Trail via jeep road where a community camp is set up.

Your only concern is to have a great time hiking each day. You will need to set up your own personal tent, but after that is done, you can come to the community tent, relax, clean up and eat your evening meal that has already been planned and prepared for you.

In the morning, while you are taking down your tent and packing your gear, we are preparing a wholesome warm breakfast for you.

A variety of fresh lunch items and snacks are put out everyday prior to hiking so you can self-design whatever you want to take with you to eat while hiking.

CME recommends that you purchase travel insurance to protect yourself against unforeseen incidents such as injury or family emergencies. It is relatively inexpensive. We are unable to offer refunds for any reason, sorry. Here is a list of insurers, there are many other reputable companies who offer travel insurance as well.

Community Base Camp Tent

This is a camping trip. There is no running water or electricity. Hikers need to bring their own tent, sleeping bag and pad. If you do not have these items, rentals are available.

Our 18 x 30 ‘ community tent is used as our combination kitchen, dining room, and living room. Delicious and health-conscious breakfasts and dinners are served inside. Camp chairs are provided for each hiker, as well as plates, utensils, and mugs. Hikers will make their trail lunches from a large selection of sandwich fixings, fruits, veggies, and other trail food.

A community latrine (toilet) is also set up for all hikers and staff. The latrine is screened with tarps to provide privacy. We practice Leave No Trace Principles. Thus, toilet paper is not buried in the latrine. All toilet paper is put in a separate container that is provided at the latrine. Some of our campsites are in Forest Service Public Campgrounds, whereby a public toilet is available.
